PROJECT DESCRIPTION

"Jesus In Egypt" is a breathtaking adventure beautifully captured in High-Definition.

"Jesus in Egypt" was prepared by a team led by best-selling author Paul Perry that includes Indialantic archaeologist John de Bry. De Bry is a veteran of numerous projects such as a quest for the ships of the notorious pirate Capt. William Kidd off Madagascar in 2000.

Part travel adventure, part spiritual journey, part historical detective story, Jesus in Egypt recounts a modern-day pilgrimage into an ancient and often baffling land. In the basements of Coptic churches and the teeming back streets of Cairo, in shrines thronged by worshipers and desert wastes haunted by saints, Perry turned up shards of the past, tales passed down through countless generations, and ghostly emanations of antiquity.

Combining ancient texts, interviews with clerics and Christian scholars, and his own startling encounters with contemporary Egypt, Paul Perry has fashioned a documentary of wonders and revelations.

Because of concern about possible Muslim threats, the Egyptian government in 2004 gave the filmmakers plenty of security, as they had for Perry during his first trip in 2001. But no incidents occurred either time. Bent Pyramid Productions funded the film, and it was shot with Sony cameras in HD 1080i format and edited on a Final Cut Pro system.
