We’re reluctant to call the Stratocaster
an “American Icon” because that
would ignore its worldwide appeal.
Music has few boundaries and the Strat is
as international as the artists who use
it. But there is no denying its roots
in the U.S. Since its creation, there
have been five basic American “generations”.
They are popularly divided into decades.
The ‘50’s, 60’s, 70’s,
80’s and 90’s. Strangely
enough, none of these divisions is purely
of those decades. We tend to define
history with events, not dates. The
50’s really consisted of the years
1952 (end of the Korean War) to 1964 (the
British Invasion and the beginning of social
rock). And so it goes through the
five generations. Without being as
boring as that bit of explanation was, we
are going to divide our presentation into
seven sections using those “generations”
as our basic guide. |
