Hard rocking; forward moving; the Fender version of “Die Hard.”   This documentary is our version of creating a Stratocaster.

More MTV than The Teaching Channel but with the effect of both.  There won’t be one moment without background music, recognizable and popular, all songs that use Stratocaster as the lead instrument.  The Narration will hardly be stuffy and lecturing.  A comparison to a modern day Monty Python will be inevitable as the narrator (to be determined) will speak in modern phrases and self effacing style.  If the subject matter seems a bit slow, the Narrator will point it out in a humorous manner.  The dialogue will be engaging, witty and hip.  And always, always interesting.

The style of video will be fast moving, a series of images and interviews, flowing together to make a point.  Fantasy elements in combination with humor will be used when appropriate.  Did you know that the finest Stratocasters from the famed Fender Custom Shop are actually made by rapping elves between midnight and five? We have security camera proof.  But for those purists, we will also feature Master Craftsman John English designing and creating a custom Strat in a music video montage.

Yes, we are striving for commerciality on this project (which is why we continually cringe at the word “documentary.”)  Aside from being capitalists, we know that lectures are boring except to those hard core fans.  Our intention is not just to attract the gear-heads who already know everything there is to know about guitars.  We want to appeal to the broader and border market, the people who have a basic knowledge of music (read: they can hum “Stairway to Heaven”) and who would normally stay away from anything that hinted of “documentary.”  The presentation, humor, famous name interviews and popular music will intrigue them, engage them and make them want to add this to their DVD library.

And to the subject of interviews, we aren’t just looking for popular artists of music.  True, we have set our sights on John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and many others.  But the Strat is so much a part of our culture that there isn’t one person who hasn’t been touched by it.  Stephen Collins (actor on “Seventh Heaven”) for example.  Chip Chalmers, (director of “Melrose Place”).  Peter Reckell (“Days of our Lives” soap star), Gary Dourdan (star of “CSI” and the upcoming “Jimi Hendrix” movie).  Even personalities such as former President Bill Clinton would have something to say about this instrument.  It is our intention to seek out these people, both popular and benign, and get their take on the evolution of this amazing guitar.  In many cases, the result will be as surprising as Richard Nixon’s “Sock it to me” on Laugh-In.  In fact, if Richard Nixon were alive….  Well, you get the idea.  Presidential Candidate John Kerry would have something to say about the Stratocaster.  He owned a Fender Jazz Bass when in his teen garage band “The Electras.”

Then again, who doesn’t have something to say about the Stratocaster?
